LTUBC Women’s Surprise UMBC with a Walk-Off Win

It came down to the wire on Sunday, as our La Trobe Women’s team grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 10-9, over Melbourne Uni’s Blue team. The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the fifth when Chloe drew a walk, scoring one run.

After the game, LTUBC Coach Hutchison was full of praise for the way her team kept fighting. “We needed two runs in the last inning – and the girls did it with disciplined batting and taking the game on when it was most needed.”

Given their relative positions on the ladder, it was such a great effort for LTUBC to stay with Melbourne Uni throughout the game and then take the opportunity at the end to win.

Some highlights from the game included a 3-run inside-the-park home run by Lucy. Also, a surprise 2-strike bunt by Rachele caught the Melbourne Uni defence napping. “It just shows that our team is willing to take risks when needed.”, Hutchison said.
